Cambridge English 9/10

In Cambridge English 9, students will engage deeply in reading, writing, speaking, and listening as they explore and analyze a wide realm of classic literature.  With countless opportunities for cooperative learning and class discussion, students are expected to participate avidly.  They will enhance their critical thinking, writing, and vocabulary skills as they experiment with different formats and genres in this rigorous class.

Cambridge History 9  
Cambridge IGCSE History looks at some of the major international issues of the twentieth century, as well as covering the history of Germany from 1919-1945 in more depth. The emphasis is on both historical knowledge and on the skills required for historical research. Students will learn about the nature of cause and effect, continuity and change, similarity and difference and find out how to use and understand historical evidence as part of their studies. IGCSE History will stimulate any student already interested in the past, providing a strong foundation for further study in Advanced Placement courses, and also encouraging a lifelong interest in the subject.   

Cambridge Earth Science 9
Cambridge IGCSE Science Grade 9 is concerned with creating an in-depth understanding of the principles of chemistry and physics. These principles are applied to of Plate Tectonics in 9th grade and to cellular biology in 10th grade. This course is designed to prepare the student for the higher level Cambridge Chemistry in 11th grade and AP Physics in 12th grade. 

Cambridge Math 9 /10
The Cambridge math course that is offered at Newark High School is called Additional Mathematics. The course is taught over a two-year period and covers topics from algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. Because Cambridge students learn an abundant of mathematical information in two years, Additional Mathematics is an extremely rigorous and challenging courseNHS Cambridge Students that will sufficiently prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) and college level mathematics at the end of their sophomore year. In fact, students who successfully finish Additional Mathematics are ready to take AP Calculus BC as juniors, and Multi-variable Calculus or AP Statistics as seniors. Students who enroll in the Cambridge math class should be excited to learn about mathematics and may be interested in later enrolling in a mathematical career.

Cambridge Biology 10  
Cambridge Biology enables students to better understand the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments. Students learn about the basic principles of biology through a mix of theoretical and practical studies. Students also develop an understanding of the scientific skills essential for further study in biology, skills which are useful in everyday life. As they progress, students learn how science is studied and practiced, and become aware that the results of scientific research can have both good and bad effects on individuals, communities and the environment.

Cambridge Biology covers all of the requirements for the IGCSE certificate in Biology, as well as all related Delaware State standards in Biology.
