Cambridge English 9/10
In Cambridge English 9,
students will engage deeply in reading, writing,
speaking, and listening as they explore and analyze a
wide realm of classic literature. With countless
opportunities for cooperative learning and class
discussion, students are expected to
participate avidly. They will enhance their critical
thinking, writing, and vocabulary skills as they
experiment with different formats and genres in this
rigorous class.
Cambridge History 9
Cambridge IGCSE History looks at
some of the major international issues of the twentieth
century, as well as covering the history of Germany from
1919-1945 in more depth. The emphasis is on both
historical knowledge and on the skills required for
historical research. Students will learn about the
nature of cause and effect, continuity and change,
similarity and difference and find out how to use and
understand historical evidence as part of their studies.
IGCSE History will stimulate any student already
interested in the past, providing a strong foundation
for further study in Advanced Placement courses, and
also encouraging a lifelong interest in the subject.
Cambridge Earth Science 9
Cambridge IGCSE Science Grade 9 is concerned
with creating an in-depth understanding of the
principles of chemistry and physics. These principles
are applied to of Plate Tectonics in 9th
grade and to cellular biology in 10th grade.
This course is designed to prepare the student for the
higher level Cambridge Chemistry in 11th
grade and AP Physics in 12th grade.
Cambridge Math 9 /10
The Cambridge math course that is offered at Newark
High School is called Additional Mathematics. The course
is taught over a two-year period and covers topics from
algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and
calculus. Because Cambridge students learn an abundant
of mathematical information in two years, Additional
Mathematics is an extremely rigorous and challenging
course
that will sufficiently prepare students for Advanced
Placement (AP) and college level mathematics at the end
of their sophomore year. In fact, students who
successfully finish Additional Mathematics are ready to
take AP Calculus BC as juniors, and Multi-variable
Calculus or AP Statistics as seniors. Students who
enroll in the Cambridge math class should be excited to
learn about mathematics and may be interested in later
enrolling in a mathematical career.
Cambridge Biology 10
Cambridge Biology enables
students to better understand the technological world in
which they live, and take an informed interest in
science and scientific developments. Students learn
about the basic principles of biology through a mix of
theoretical and practical studies. Students also develop
an understanding of the scientific skills essential for
further study in biology, skills which are useful in
everyday life. As they progress, students learn how
science is studied and practiced, and become aware that
the results of scientific research can have both good
and bad effects on individuals, communities and the
environment.
Cambridge Biology
covers all of the requirements for the IGCSE certificate
in Biology, as well as all related Delaware State
standards in Biology. |
