Social Studies at Keene

District Social Studies Goal: By 2006, all students and all disaggregated populations will be able to perform at or above the proficiency level in Social Studies, Level III, on the DSTP (4, 6, 8, 11).

Social Studies Units of Study K-4:
  • Economics: Economics analyzes how individuals and societies produce, allocate, distribute, and expend resources. Students learn to examine the inherent relationship between costs and benefits, and the values associated with them.
  • Civics: Civics directly addresses citizenship education within the context of political systems. Students study the assumptions upon which governments are founded, and the organizations and strategies governments employ to achieve their goals.
  • History: History organizes events and phenomena in terms of when they occur. Students study the ways in which individuals and societies have changed and interacted over time.
  • Geography: Citizens should possess a knowledge of geography and an ability to apply a geographical perspective to life situations.

Social Studies Standards: The Social Studies curriculum used by Keene teachers is guided by the Delaware Department of Education. To read more about the Delaware State Social Studies Standards used at Keene, click here.
