Social Studies at
Keene

•District Social Studies
Goal: By 2006, all students and all disaggregated
populations will be able to perform at or above the proficiency level in
Social Studies, Level III, on the DSTP (4, 6, 8, 11).
•Social Studies Units of
Study K-4:
- Economics: Economics
analyzes how individuals and societies produce, allocate, distribute,
and expend resources. Students learn to examine the inherent
relationship between costs and benefits, and the values associated with
them.
- Civics: Civics directly addresses citizenship
education within the context of political systems. Students study the
assumptions upon which governments are founded, and the organizations
and strategies governments employ to achieve their goals.
- History: History organizes
events and phenomena in terms of when they occur. Students study
the ways in which individuals and societies have changed and interacted
over time.
- Geography: Citizens should possess a knowledge of
geography and an ability to apply a geographical perspective to life
situations.
