Get involved! Downes has many opportunities for you to volunteer your time and talent or to donate supplies and other contributions.

Support Activities During School

Birthday Club: Work with Mrs. Schwartz once a month to hand out PTA-provided pencil and card to celebrate each child's birthday
Book Fairs (Fall & Spring): Set up, assist children with selections, cashier
DCAS Snacks: Work with our teachers and PTA-budgeted money (some donations needed) to purchase and distribute snacks during testing
Field Day: Help Ms. Hudson to plan, set up, work event, clean up
Fun in the Sun: Supervise moon bounces, serve snow cones and snacks
Fundraisers: Help with the logistics of card and catalog orders
Library Media Center Assistance: Various duties; contact Ellen Fritz
Mentoring in the Classrooms: Help kids in need of one-on-one attention
PBS (Positive Behavior Support): Staff the PBS Store or donate items
Picture Days: Come help the kids get organized and comb hair
Reading ASSIST®: Help a struggling child learn to read
Trek: Volunteers are needed during recess to help kids count laps and other Trek challenges
Walk to School Day: Contact Ms. Hudson

Dads' Breakfast: Organize and collect food, ticket sales, set up, clean up, work event
Family Fun Night: Organize and collect food, ticket sales, set up, clean up, work event
Ice Skating Party this year!: Flyers, ticket sales
Moms' Breakfast: Organize and collect food, ticket sales, set up, clean up, work event
Mitten Tree: Set up tree, collect donated items, wrap items
Reflections Art Program: Help organize, prepare flyers
Science Fair: Organize, flyers, ribbons, set up, clean up
T-shirt / Apparel Sale (Fall & Spring): Flyers, collect orders, distribute items ordered
Teacher Appreciation Week: Decorate doors, help to plan the week; contact Calyce Magee
Teacher Luncheon: Help to set up and clean up

Clothing: The Nurse's Office is in need of girls' & boys' items: coats, sweat pants, underwear (new); contact Mrs. Laudorn, School Nurse
Mitten Tree: Buy a gift for a family in need
Money: Make an online donation to the PTA to support the events and activities at Downes
PBS (Positive Behavior Support): Donate items for the PBS Store

Box Tops and Labels for Education: Send them in sets of 25, trimmed and bagged (or enveloped), with your child's full name and room number
eScrip: Register for eScrip and earn money for Downes by using your grocery cards and existing credit/ debit cards
Labels for Education: Campbell’s soups and gravies, Pepperidge Farm products (including Goldfish), Spaghettios, Franco American gravies, V8, and Prego products
Tyson Project A+: In your grocer's freezer section, look for Tyson Products that display the Project A+™ logo; each label is worth 24¢ cash!

Homeroom Parent: One or two contact people are needed for each room to coordinate communications and activities with parents; contact Calyce Magee
PTA Meetings: Evening meetings are held once a month
Site Council: Meets after school the third Tuesday of each month to develop, review, and evaluate school programs and budgets
Title I Parent Council: Meets monthly on Thursday evenings starting Sept. 22 at Gauger-Cobbs
Wellness Council: Ms. Hudson is looking for people to join this advisory group, which meets after school the third Wednesday of each month
