Downes PTA
The Downes PTA provides more than $30,000 to the school to help ensure that the teachers have the resources they need to teach our children (books, supplies, etc.) and the children have the best programs available, but we can't do this without parent participation.
PTA Asks for "Sunshine Donations"
Due to significant budget cuts, Downes is not able to purchase everything that teachers need for their classrooms. Parents, grandparents, and friends of the school can help out by making a Sunshine Donation. Read more...
Also, we are asking for donations to the PBS Store. A box for donations is located in the office. This is an important program to the children and with our donations of educational and fun items for the kids, it will continue to be a thriving program.
Get Involved
In March, the older children will participate in the DSTP testing. Please ask your teacher what snacks you can donate for their classrooms.
Next year we are losing valuable PTA participation as children leave to go to middle school. We'll be looking for a new co-president, a co-vice president of fundraisers, and a new treasurer. Please consider joining the PTA board. Your involvement is also very important at the district level. Not only for your child's time at Downes but beyond in middle and high school. If you are interested, contact Debbie Christie at christie_debbie@yahoo.com to be put on the ballot list. Elections will be held in May 2010.
All parents are invited and encouraged to participate in the strategic planning 2010–2013 sessions. More information can be found at the District web site. Please mark your calendars and participate! The district wants to hear from you!
There are still activities and events that need parent volunteers! Please contact Calyce (cmagee@martinscott.com) or Lisa (enlvoigt@verizon.net) for a list of activities. Also, check out the Activities and Events page.

PTA Takes Action
Child advocacy is at the heart of PTA's mission and vision. Taking action provides both parents and PTA leaders with the resources to become more involved with their community at home and their community across the nation. PTA’s Advocacy Network is a simple way to get involved and helps you stay informed on federal policies affecting children. Connect with policymakers at the local, state and federal levels, as well as your community and the media. This network helps secure effective laws governing the care and protection of children and youth.
