The students and staff of Christiana High School
held a "Hats 4 Haiti" fundraiser
beginning Monday, January 25. A number of
student organizations collected $1 donations
from students and staff during
lunch
periods the week of January 25-29. For
their $1 donation, participates were allowed to
wear
the hat of their choice in the hallways and
classrooms all day on Friday, January 29. To
encourage participation, a friendly competition
was held between the grades. After a slow
start at the beginning of the week, juniors Fred
Green and Porsha Harvey rallied their class and
in a very close race, the Class of 2011 was the
winning team raising $400, earning them a pizza
and soda party in the school's cafeteria Friday
afternoon.
The event was a huge success with 99% of the
1135 students participating raising a total of
$1,520 which will be matched by the United Way
of Delaware bringing the total of this CHS
fundraiser to $3,042!
Special thanks to Dean of Students, Mr.
Darwin Manges for helping to organize the
event, to Chef Paul and his staff for
volunteering their time during the pizza and
soda party, and congratulations to the Class
of 2011 for their winning participation!
