The Oprah Winfrey Show features four CHS students
receiving a surprise that changed their lives

Christina School District students, parents, and
members of the community were invited to take part in
an unforgettable "Oprah" show on Tuesday, May 5 that
featured a surprise for four Christiana High
School boys that changed their lives forever.
Twelfth-grade students Jaiquann Beckham,
of Wilmington, Elijah Williams, of Newark,
and twin brothers Barien and Darien White,
of Newark, were contacted by The Oprah Winfrey
Show after Jaiquann sent the show an email.
The boys were told that The Oprah Winfrey Show
was doing a show about the impact of the economic
recession, and the shows producers were interested
in talking to high school seniors about the
challenges they faced in paying for college.
Tuesday's show included an unforgettable
surprise for these four outstanding members of the
Class of 2009. They will be included in a
segment called "Brand New Harpo Hook-ups." The
show aired on WPVI Channel 6 at 4:00 p.m.
"We are so proud of Jaiquann, Elijah, Barien and
Darien", said Christiana High School principal
Noreen Lasorsa. "We have known for a long time
that these student athletes are young men that
have great pride and character, and now everyone who
watches will see what hard work, dedication to self,
and friendship can accomplish. These truly are
young men of character."
