Indoor Track Team Brings Home Medals & Breaks School Records
The Christiana High School
(CHS) boys Indoor Track team made some noise in Landover,
Maryland recently at the 2009 Montgomery Invitational. A
total of 110 teams from the surrounding states included some of
the top teams in the nation. CHS was very successful bring
home medals and breaking school records. The 4 by 800
relay team, made up of JaiQuann Beckman, Gerald Hornbuckle,
Barien White and Darien White shattered the school
record by 12 seconds and challenged the state record with a time
of 8 minutes and 12 seconds, placing 3rd overall. The 4 x
200 relay team made up of Eric Boyer, Gerald Hornbuckle,
Kenny Lumpkins and Elijah Williams also broke the
school record with a time of 1 minute and 33 seconds, placing
2nd overall and qualifying for the Nike Indoor Nationals
Championship. Individually Barien White broke two
of his previous school records in the mile and 2 mile. He
ran a time of 4 minutes and 34 seconds in the mile and 10
minutes in the 2 mile. Out of the 10 running event, the
CHS team now holds six number one spots in the state. The
team also had great efforts from Jordan Asbury, Jack Barchock,
Terrance Odrick and Kellan Turner.
