CHS Cadets Visit Delaware Air National Guard
Twenty-two
cadets and
Sgt. Maj.
Gary
G. Arnold Jr. USMC Ret,
Naval
Science Instructor, recently
visited the Delaware Air National
Guard C-130 squadron for an orientation flight. Once at the
base, located at New Castle County airport, the cadets received
an in-brief from Major Calcasi, the units operations officer.
He covered the days events, rules and regulations for riding in
a military aircraft and takeoff and landing times. All cadets
were screened and were required to go through a metal detector
prior to boarding the aircraft. We boarded the aircraft at
10:30 and wheels up were at 11:00. The flight took us to the
Philadelphia/Willow Grove area then over to Atlantic City. From
Atlantic City, they flew down the Delaware coast south of
Dover, enjoying the scenery of beaches and the Atlantic
ocean and then returned to the New Castle County airport.
During
takeoff and landing two cadets were allowed in the cockpit with
the flight crew. Throughout the flight, all of the cadets were
allowed to rotate through the flight deck, put on a headset and
ask questions of the pilot and co-pilot
