Special Education Services

The Christina School District provides a comprehensive array of services for students with special needs.  These include specialized classroom instruction by certified special education teachers, as well as many individualized services designed to promote academic and personal progress for the whole child.

Individualized Education Program (IEP)
Each public school child who receives special
education and related services must have an
Pencils & Scissors Individualized Education Program (IEP).  Each IEP must be designed for one student and must be a truly individualized document. The IEP creates an opportunity for teachers, parents, school administrators, related services personnel, and students (when appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities. The IEP is the cornerstone of a quality education for each child with a disability.

Inclusive Practices
Inclusive practices in special education reflect
the intent of the law that children with disabilities
be educated with their non-disabled peers to the greatest extent possible or appropriate. These laws
set the precedent for all students, not just those
with disabilities, to have the opportunity to be
educated equally with their peers and disallow any
child from being excluded, no matter how diverse
from the general population the child may be. The Christina School District is currently implementing inclusive practices on a district-wide basis, following both state and federal laws.
