The
final submission of the District’s Race to
the Top Plan, a document required by all
public school districts in the state,
was submitted to the Delaware Department
of Education on June 1, 2011.
The plan has evolved over the past year
with one mission in mind – transforming
Christina into a system of
great schools that prepares every
graduate for success in college or a
career. This was a true team effort that
required the commitment of individuals
from all areas of the district and
community, and we express our thanks to
all who played a role in developing this
outstanding plan.
Delaware was one of only two states in
the country to receive the first round
of federal education grants known as
Race to the Top (RTTT). Delaware has
received $119 million that will be used
over the next four years to assist
public school districts and charter
schools in implementing statewide
education reforms. These reforms will
focus on four key areas: standards and
assessments, data systems, effective
teachers and leaders, and low-performing
schools.
Christina
will receive approximately $9.9 million
dollars, which will be appropriated over
four years based on the strategies Christina
outlined to meet the goals of the Race to
the Top grant and submitted to the Delaware
Department of Education.
