Information About Full-Day Kindergarten for Fall
2010
Great news for Christina families—Christina
will now
offer additional Full-Day Kindergarten seats
in all suburban elementary schools beginning
in August 2010! We thank the residents of
Christina and their support of the Operating
Referendum, as well as the Joint Finance Committee, who recently agreed to partially
fund Full-Day Kindergarten for the Christina
School District in 2010. This allows
Christina to expand Full-Day
Kindergarten options to all
elementary schools this year. (Note:
Full-Day Kindergarten is already available
in city elementary schools.) The deadline for applying for
Full-Day Kindergarten was July 15, 2010.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for
Christina families, and we are thrilled that
we can offer expanded Full-Day Kindergarten
seats this coming school year, rather than
having to wait until next year,” said
Christina Superintendent Dr. Marcia Lyles.
“We want to thank our residents and elected
officials for
supporting this important opportunity.”
- Some families participated in the
School Choice option for Full-Day
Kindergarten for 2010, and have received
notification about their child’s Choice
placement for 2010. Those families will
have priority to either stay in their
choice school or return to their feeder
school for Full-Day Kindergarten. Those
families will be contacted first to
discuss their preferences, and to submit
required forms.
- Families who were placed on waiting
lists after the choice process will also
receive priority.
-
All suburban elementary schools will now
offer a total of 44 choice seats for
Full-Day Kindergarten. Schools offering
limited Full-Day Kindergarten seats for
the first time this fall include Brader,
Brookside, Gallaher, Jones, Keene,
Leasure, Marshall, McVey and Smith Elementary
Schools.
-
If the District receives more
applications than seats available, a
lottery process will go into effect for
those seats, with priority assigned to
feeder students.
- Parents will be notified by mail
during the week of July 26, 2010.
- All remaining students will be assigned
to half-day Kindergarten. All suburban
schools will continue to offer half-day
Kindergarten.
- Full implementation of unlimited
Full-Day Kindergarten is anticipated in
2011.
- Children must be age 5 by August 31
to attend Kindergarten
