Christina Montessori Preschool Programs
The Christina School District will offer Montessori Preschool options serving children aged 3 and 4 in two locations beginning in August, 2012. 

In Wilmington, the District will offer a full-day program from 8:30 am-3:30 pm in the current Elementary Workshop Montessori School located at 502 North Pine Street.  The cost of the full-day program is $650 per month.  Seats are limited.

In the greater Newark area, the District will offer a full-day program from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at Brookside Elementary School located at 800 Marrows Road in Newark. The cost of the full-day program is $650 per month. Seats are limited. 

All parents who wish to apply for the Montessori Preschool programs must complete an application, and must submit required documentation. Tuition assistance may be available for applicants who meet eligibility requirements. Parents may register and apply at two locations:

• In Wilmington, at the Drew Educational Support Services Building, 600 North Lombard Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 
• In Newark, at the Christina Early Education Center, 620 East Chestnut Hill Road, Newark, DE 19713

Delaware's First Public Montessori Programs
A Partnership with Elementary Workshop, Inc
Begins in August 2012 in the Christina School District

On October 11, 2011, the Christina School District Board of Education approved a proposed partnership with Elementary Workshop Montessori to establish the first public Montessori programs in the state. The partnership will begin in August, 2012 as a 3-year pilot, with locations in Wilmington and Newark.  The Wilmington location will be located at the current Elementary Workshop facilities at 502 N. Pine Street, and will operate under the name Montessori Academy at Christina (MAC). The Elementary Workshop Montessori School has been located on N. Pine Street since 1971. The MAC program will open in August 2012 with grade levels Pre-K-5, and will require a balance of students with a Montessori background. As a pilot for the first three years, the program will continue to operate out of this location, currently leased from St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, with students attending some classes, such as gym or music, at Bancroft Elementary School, located less than two blocks away at 700 North Lombard Street. At the conclusion of the lease, the program could be moved into Bancroft and operated within the school. 

The second location will be at Brookside Elementary School in Newark, and will operate under the name Newark Montessori Program. The Newark Montessori Program at Brookside Elementary will open in August 2012 as a preschool program serving students ages 3 and 4. During the pilot phase, it is hoped that the Newark program will develop at Brookside to eventually serve students Pre-K through grade 5.
