| SEPTEMBER-JUNE - A sorority of young ladies organized on the
campus of Glasgow High whose purpose is to help young ladies
make the social behavioral adjustment necessary to meet with
success; attend a college step show; learn fashion trends; be a
part of a stepping squad; work with younger students at other
schools; participate in Dragon Talent Show and pep fests.

Business Professionals of America is the national vocational
student organization for students preparing for careers in
business. The mission of Business Professionals of America is
to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce
through advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and
technological skills. All students currently enrolled in a
business class can join the organization. Students will take
part in preparing for both state and national competitions. In
addition, fundraising is a major part of this club as it helps
to offset the cost of attending these conferences.

Family Career
Community Leaders of America, Glasgow Chapter
|
|
FCCLA is the student organization for Family and Consumer
Sciences students. The goal of FCCLA is to provide
opportunities to use the information gained in Family and
Consumer Sciences classes in a variety of settings and projects
while developing leadership skills. Family and Consumer
Sciences programs include nutrition and wellness, food
preparation, family life issues, child development, financial
literacy and resource management. The national organization
includes about 5,000 students as members across the United
States and in foreign countries. FCCLA community projects have
included supporting homeless shelters, interacting with the
elderly, and working with young children. In the past 6 years,
GHS chapter members have competed on the state and national
level, earning top honors.

ALL YEAR - The French Club will meet after class (schedule to be
determined). The club will see French movies, talk about
different francophone cultures, organize a meal from French

Philadelphia Museum of Art to see the French impressionists.

ALL YEAR - The FFA is a national organization of students
enrolled in agricultural education. FFA makes a positive
difference in the lives of students by developing their
potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career

the Ag-Science class is eligible to participate in FFA. Join
FFA and develop leadership, experience personal growth, attend
state and national career development events.

GHS Concert Band

The GHS Concert band works throughout the school year
preparing and performing pieces for indoor concerts. The
Concert Band gives three school concerts a year, as well as
performances at the Glasgow High School Commencement, and a
Spring Tour. Past trips have included Boston, Orlando, Myrtle
Beach, Toronto, Chicago and Atlanta.
The 50-piece Concert Band's repertoire has included the music
of Gustav Holst, Alfred Reed, J. S. Bach, Percy Aldridge
Grainer, and John Philip Sousa, as well as modern works by
Elliot Del Borgo, Robert W. Smith, David Holsinger, John
Williams, and Frank Ticheli.
As a class, Concert Band meets seventh period every day
starting at the beginning of the second marking period. Along
with the class work, students are also expected to fulfill a
rotating group lesson requirement outside of the band period.
Opportunities to play in smaller groups are also available.
Note: Percussionists should NOT sign up for Concert Band!
They should register for Percussion Ensemble/Steel Drums
instead, where they will address issues specific to the
percussion family. There is an opportunity to play with the
Concert Band built into the percussion ensemble class.

GHS Marching Band |

Marching Band is a unique blend of physical and mental
conditioning, teamwork, musicality, and showmanship that gives
many students an opportunity to interact with their peers in a
cooperative yet competitive environment. The Dragon Marching
band is a corps-style marching unit consisting of about 50
woodwind, brass, percussion, and visual performers. The group
performs at all varsity football games, many community events,
and school functions, and also participates in a number of field
competitions each fall.
Since 1999, the Dragon Band has gained a reputation for its
enthusiastic support of the football program, and has continued
to grow in size and performance excellence on the field. The
group rehearses once a week in July, and starts an intense daily
pre-season schedule before school begins in mid-August. Once
school starts, the band rehearses twice a week on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings.
Marching Band is a first semester class open to any student
at Glasgow High School who has previous musical experience and
is able to fulfill the significant time commitment.

This new ensemble introduces students to both Steel
Drum playing and the traditional percussion ensemble. The class
meets first block on A days, includes several after school
rehearsals, and performances at the Winter and Spring Concerts.
All percussionists should sign up for this class instead of
Concert Band to develop percussion performance skills.

National Honor Society |
|
ALL YEAR - Glasgow High School's chapter of the National Honor
Society is comprised of senior and juniors who have maintained a
cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and who were selected because of
their outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, and
service. The members are dedicated to the improvements of their
school and surrounding communities. Through annual fundraisers,
including a fashion show and a 5K Run/Walk, the Society is able
to donate proceeds in the forms of contributions to charities
and grants to teachers. In addition to organizing fundraisers,
students also rake leaves for senior citizens, play bingo with
residents from Little Sisters of the Poor, volunteer at the
Delaware Food Bank, and contribute to the development of an
autistic child.

Spanish Honor Society |

ALL YEAR - The Spanish Honor Society is sponsored by the
American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese,
which is a national organization. The Glasgow High School
chapter of the Spanish Honor Society is named La Amistad, which
means Friendship.
The goals are to encourage students to continue studying
Spanish, to expose students to the Hispanic culture and lastly,
to provide opportunities to practice the language with native
speakers. In order to be a member of the Spanish Honor Society,
students must demonstrate outstanding ability in Spanish by
maintaining 3.5 GPA for three semesters in their Spanish
classes.

ALL YEAR - An elective office. Ninth graders are elected in the
fall; other grads in late spring. Class officers meet every 2-3
weeks in plan, organize, and raise funds for school events and
other events. The entire SGA meets about once a month.

Association (TSA) |

The mission of the Technology Student Association is to prepare
students for the challenges of a dynamic world by promoting
technological literacy, leadership, and problem solving,
resulting in personal growth and opportunities. In order to
achieve these goals, TSA offers recognition in both technology
and leadership arenas. We believe that by participating in
carefully designed competitions, students learn to do their
best, thereby becoming winners whether or not they actually
place in competition. TSA is open to students who are enrolled
