Eleven District Art Teachers' works
have been selected to participate in a juried art
show at the Delaware Art Museum entitled
Creativity Multiplied: Art Teachers of
the Christina School District. The exhibit
will run through August 11.

The number of Advanced Placement (AP)
exams taken in the Christina School District
increased at all three of the District's traditional
high schools this past year. A total of 996
exams were taken this spring compared to 675 in
2009-2010. This was a 47% increase from last
year to this year. more

Wingate is one of only twelve recipients in the
United States to receive the Link Leader
Scholarship.

Newark High School won the Visionary
Award for having the most students
who earned the Delaware Volunteer
Credit for community service for the
second year in a row. Over 50
students earned the volunteer credit
for more than 90 hours of community
service.

For the fifth year in a row, students in Mr. Ed
Smith's Business class at Glasgow High School have
qualified for the North American Junior Achievement
(JA) Banks in Action Competition.

Two teachers from Leasure Elementary School,
Natasha Reid and Joyce Young have been
chosen to attend the 201 National Mickelson
ExxonMobile Teachers Academy to be held at Liberty
Science Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Reid and Young were the only two teachers in
Delaware chosen to attend the Teachers Academy.

Glasgow High School AFJROTC competed in the ROTC
Delaware University Drill Competition and received
the following awards: 1st place Iron Man
Competition, 1st place Drill Competition, 2nd place
Push-Ups, 3rd place Sit-Ups, 1st place Overall.

Nancy Martter, has been named Secondary Guidance
Counselor of the Year!

Two students from Newark High School
have earned the Cambridge Scholar Award in
recognition of their achievement on the June 2010
exam session. Junior
Megan Rise earned the top score in the United
States on the First Language English exam.
Sophomore Caroline Beston earned the top
score in the United States on the Environmental
Management exam. Congratulations to both students
for a job well done!

Roberta Longwood was invited to participate in
NBC's Education Nation Summit held in New York City
in September. The four day summit was

McVey Elementary School Fourth-Graders
in Paul Sedacca's class made history on June 10th
when Governor Markell signed a bill into law
designating the gray fox as Delaware's official
wildlife animal. The Bill was introduced by
the students with help from Rep. John Kowalko.

Newark High School’s Anna Dmytrenko
was recently named a Delaware Distinguished
Scholar for the Class of 2010 and will attend the
Royal Academy of Music in London. She states, “Since
the beginning of my high school career, I have been
adamant about setting concrete goals for myself. I
have always wanted to work as hard as possible to
achieve my full potential.”

Newark High School’s Elizabeth Truong
was recently named a Delaware Distinguished Scholar
for the Class of 2010 and will attend the University
of Southern California. She states, “My mother and
grandmother have been my inspiration to succeed. I
strive to reach my potential as both a human being
and a scholar, so that I can eventually assist those
in need and inspire others.”

Baffour was recently named a Delaware
Distinguished Scholar for the Class of 2010 and will
attend the University of Pennsylvania. She states,
“The cornerstone of my striving for success has been
my parents' own exemplary will to succeed. In spite
of life's obstacles, my parents defined the value of
perseverance in their pursuit of education and the
"American Dream."

Bernice was recently named a Delaware
Distinguished Scholar for the Class of 2010 and will
attend the University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia. She states, “It is because of the
support of my family that I have the tools as well
as the will to do well and become successful in the
future. I thank my family for all of their
support.”

Bleeker was recently named a Delaware
Distinguished Scholar for the Class of 2010 and will
attend UD. She states, “My life is based upon
determination to be successful, commitment to finish
what I have begun, and the development of important
values.”

Yea-Seong was recently named a Delaware
Distinguished Scholar for the Class of 2010 and
plans to major in digital media. He states, “Every
day, what drives me to pursue success and my ambitions
in life is my family. I will make sure that my
family rises from a life of hard, long, and tedious
work to a life of luxury, happiness, and comfort.”
