The Christina School District has named Dr.
Marcia V. Lyles as Superintendent of Schools
following an extensive national search.
The announcement was made at the May Board
of
Education meeting on May 19. Lyles is
a resident of Staten Island, New York.
She holds an Ed.D. degree from Teachers
College, Columbia University, a master’s
degree in English from New York University,
and a bachelor’s degree in English from
Hunter College, City University of New York.
She was a Fellow in the Broad Urban
Superintendents Academy in 2006, and holds
SAS Certification from Baruch College, City
University of New York.
Dr.
Lyles presently serves as Deputy Chancellor
for Teaching
and Learning for the New York City
Department of Education. Prior to this
position, she served for three years as
Regional Superintendent for the New York
City Department of Education. She has a
total of 19 years of experience as a
building and district administrator, serving
as program coordinator, assistant principal,
principal, deputy superintendent, community
superintendent, and regional superintendent
for the New York City school system between
1985 and 2004. Dr. Lyles also taught
high school English for eight years at
Curtis High School in New York City, and has
served as an adjunct professor of education
for several colleges in the New York area
since 1996.

decision tonight has been made after
thoughtful deliberation among the members of
the board,
and we assure the public that we have
listened to the extensive input we have
received
from our constituents and our employees.
We believe Dr. Lyles is the best choice for
Superintendent of our District, and that she
will provide the outstanding leadership
required to continue our efforts on behalf
of all the children we serve.”
Dr. Lyles’ start date and salary package
have not been determined and will be
negotiated with the Board.
