A Message
from the Interim Superintendent
April 29,
2009
Dear
Christina School District Parents and Guardians:
As you are
aware, the media has reported four possible
cases of the swine flu virus affecting students
at the University of Delaware. We have
been proactive this year in keeping our schools
clean and disease-free by following strict
guidelines for cleaning, and making hand
sanitizer solution more widely available in
classrooms, offices, cafeterias, and other
common areas within schools. In addition,
our school nurses are alert and aware of swine
flu symptoms.
In order to
help ensure the health of our students, their
families, and our employees, the Christina
School District is working closely with
national, state, and local health agencies to
monitor and communicate any threat of swine flu
in our area.
The most
important thing parents and students can do is
to use common-sense infection control
techniques. These include:
-
Washing
your hands often with soap and warm water.
Hand cleaners are also effective.
-
Avoid
people who are ill.
-
Stay home
from work or school if you are sick.
-
Use
tissues when you cough or sneeze.
-
Keep your
hands away from your face. Avoid
touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
-
Clean
shared spaces often, such as phone
receivers, keyboards, and office equipment.
-
Refrain
from sharing personal items such as
utensils, toothbrushes, and towels.
If you or
your child becomes ill with flu-like symptoms,
including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore
throat, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, please
contact your health care provider.
We are taking
every precautionary measure to ensure the safety
and welfare of our students and staff. If you
have questions or need additional information,
please contact your school directly, and your
questions will be answered by the school nurse.
Information is also available on the
district website, at the
U.S.
Center for Disease Control website and at
the
Delaware Department of Health and Social
Services- Division of Public Health website.
Sincerely,
Freeman Williams
