Christiana High Students Volunteer to Beautify
School

Christiana
High School continues to believe that
cultivating students of distinction is
centralized around having pride in who they are
and how that pride is reflective of where they
spend their time. On Saturday morning,
March 14 over 40 students and 4 staff members
volunteered their time to work hand in hand with
the CHS School Beautification Committee.
This is just one of the many student-based
activities organized to increase awareness
around the positive changes that are still
occurring at CHS.

REACH Program Celebrates Dr. Seuss!
 |
The REACH class at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School
had a belated celebration of Dr. Seuss’s
birthday on Wednesday, March 4th. The capstone
of the event was
a special reading by REACH Principal
Jacque Wisnauskas,
who read
The Cat in
the Hat
to the class
before
students enjoyed
birthday cake
in honor of Dr. Seuss.
The celebration took place throughout the day,
and
included a breakfast of green eggs and ham along
with the reading of
Green Eggs and
Ham. Dr. Seuss activities were
incorporated into the academic routine during
the day. Students had a lunch of roast
“beast” subs from Capriotti's. As part of this
event,
students worked on identifying the menu, making
the phone call to order, predicting the price,
and examining the receipt. Students worked on
fractions with the sub
sandwiches
before quickly devouring the delicious food. In
the afternoon,
students enjoyed true/false trivia of Dr. Seuss
facts. The Gauger-Cobbs Student Council
covered the costs of
breakfast and lunch and the REACH Program is
very appreciate of the support given by all.

Guess Who's Coming to Read?!
Pulaski Elementary School's "I Love to
Read" Guest Reader Program

Pulaski Elementary School sponsored its
1st Annual “I Love to Read”
Guest Reader Program during the weeks of
February 23rd through March 2nd.
Members from the Pulaski community were
invited to visit students in grades K-5.
Guest Readers were expected to read a
favorite children’s story and share with
students how reading is important to
them in their life or work.
The
State of Delaware Lieutenant Governor,
Matt Denn, Honorable Mayor
James Baker (City of Wilmington),
Mrs. Michelle Taylor (CEO of
United Way), and Mr.
Charles Madden (Hope Commission)
were just a few of the outstanding
guests who have participated in the
program. Lieutenant Governor, Matt
Denn, was asked by a group of first
graders to read “more and more” books by
one of their favorite authors, David
Shannon. Students from second
grade classrooms received a lesson in
history, as Mayor James Baker read to
them the biography of Ruby Bridges
entitled, Through My Eyes.
On
Sunday, March 1st, members of the
Pulaski staff, students, and Guest
Readers from United Way and the Hope
Commission, appeared on Channel 28
on The Congo Hour.
They shared with the viewing
audience the importance of reading.
Fourth and fifth grade students
discussed the kinds of books they liked
to read as they responded to questions
posed by Mr. Ernest Congo Jr., the
show’s television host. During the
show, Mrs. Tracey N. Roberts, principal,
invited all stakeholders of the Pulaski
Elementary School community to become
Guest Readers.
The
Pulaski students, teachers, and
administrators are excited about the “I
Love to Read” Guest Reader Program!
Due to the overwhelming response from
interested readers, the program has been
extended until the end of May.
Visits take approximately 20-30 minutes.
Readers may bring one of their favorite
children’s stories or contact the school
at 302-429-4136 to help find an
age-appropriate selection. Please
join us in this exciting adventure!
Be a Guest Reader at Pulaski Elementary
School!
