Newark-Are Representative Host Second
Book Drive Event for Christina School District |
|
|
Democratic State Representatives Michael A.
Barbieri, Earl G. Jaques Jr., John A. Kowalko
and Teresa L. Schooley, who all represent the
Newark area, will continue their month-long book
drive benefiting Christina School District on
Saturday,
February 28 at
Borders Books and Music store in Newark.

Last month, these local legislators answered
Governor Jack A. Markell's call to community
service through the book drive, and the activity
has exceeded initial expectations, with more
than 2,000 books collected to date. The
donations help replenish the district's
libraries and classrooms. The Newark-area
representatives now hope to generate a second
wave of donations in an effort to collect 4,000
books. All four state representatives will be on
hand from 1:30-5:00 p.m. at Borders to collect
books donated to help replenish the district’s
libraries and classrooms and to meet with
residents. Secretary of Education (and former
Christina School District superintendent) Dr.
Lillian Lowery will also attend the event to
greet residents and discuss the importance of
continued service and support of schools.
Those wishing to participate may donate used
books, purchase new books at Borders to donate,
or make a cash contribution to the Christina
School District. Borders is located at 101
Geoffrey Drive in Newark. For more information
about the book drive, please call Eli Turkel at
744-4192 or Borders at 366-8144.
