Kirk Middle School Teacher Karen Hruz Named
District Teacher of the Year

Karen Hruz, a Social Studies teacher and AVID District lead teacher at Kirk Middle School, was speechless on May 16 when Superintendent Lyles and Kirk Principal Saliyah Cruz made a surprise appearance in her classroom. They were there to announce that Karen had been chosen as the Christina School District Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013! Karen was selected from an outstanding pool of building-level Teachers of the Year by the annual District selection committee. She will represent the Christina School District as its District Teacher of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year, and will also be in the running to be named the State Teacher of the Year by the Delaware Department of Education. The State Teacher of the Year will be announced this fall.
